Charitable Donations
Club Mentoring
New club members are assigned a mentor to help acquaint them with the many projects that the club undertakes. They will also assist with any questions or procedures that the club uses. All new members receive a club yearbook and a gift bag filled with surprises!
Conservation
In our municipal gardens and home gardens we practice the conservation principles of mulching, composting, and using drought-tolerant and native plants. We teach by example in the municipal gardens as much as possible. In our homes we are constantly vigilant to recycle as many things as possible. We share new information at meetings that will help preserve our beautiful world.
Habitat for Humanity
Several plants that were left over from the spring plant sale were delivered to the Lansing Habitat for Humanity by Mary Lou Hatfield. These plants were used as landscaping for three new habitat houses.
Junior Gardening
During the past year Delores Bouton and Shirley Tsai went into a 1st grade classroom and helped the children decorate cups and plant annuals in them for their Mother on Mothers Day. All materials were brought in for the children to use.
Meridian Historical Village < Click to view website
Overlooking the small, but lovely, Lake Catherine, the Meridian Historical Village is located in picturesque Central Park in Okemos, Michigan. The Village contains historic buildings moved from other locations and carefully restored to their original 19th century style. Club members design and maintain the gardens around the historical buildings in the village.
Pressed Flowers Greeting Cards
From the plants that we grow, we create and sell pressed flower note cards and bookmarks. The money raised is used to support projects sponsored by the Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc. and local projects.
Yearbook
Club members create and publish a yearbook detailing past and future events that involve club members. The yearbook contains a membership directory and lots of photos and information about club organization, events, and opportunities for community service. The books have won many awards in Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc. yearbook competitions.
